Professional Development
Neil grew up in Reading before leaving home to study at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge where he read medicine and completed a BA in developmental & neurobiology.
He continued at the Cambridge University Clinical Schoool at Addenbrookes Hospital to acheive his medical and surgical degrees before going on to his house jobs.
After a year in New Zealand and a year in London he settled in Southampton to pass his MRCP with the Royal College of Physicians in London and acheive a wide base of experience across medical specialities as well as the emergency department.
He continued working in in Jersey as a medical and renal registrar for a year before making the decision to change to General Practice – a decision he hasn’t regretted and wishes he had made sooner!
Neil completed his GP training during which he acheived a distinction in the MRCGP as well as completing his Diploma in Immediate Care with the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh).
He has been working mostly as a locum since then although he was a partner for 2 years in Worthing. Neil has completed his degree in Computing and ICT and used this to develop DutyDoctor – innovative rota scheduling software for primary care. He is part of the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur programme.
He has supervised several nurses thorugh tehir prescribing qualifications as well as provided specialised IT training in GP practices.
More recently he was Clinical Director for Innovations in Primary Care, a GP federation from 2018 until it closed in 2024. Whilst there he worked to set up an develop enhanced access services for both face-to-face and remote consultations to support GP practices and to develop implementation of Urgent Treatment Centres in Worthing and Chichester as part of the national NHS UTC programme.
